Savile RowMakfi Entire Looking to Land First Group 1 Victory

The highly talented Savile Row will look to make amends for two narrow defeats in Group 1 company as a three-year-old when he tackles the $200,000 Group 1 Harcourts Thorndon Mile at Wellington tomorrow.

Bred and owned by Valachi Downs proprietor Kevin Hickman, Savile Row finished second in three Group 1 races as a 3YO (NZ 2000 Guineas, Levin Classic, & Herbie Dyke Stakes) – two of them by the barest of margins. Trained by Michael Moroney and Pam Gerard at Matamata, Savile Row headed to Australia but failed to find his New Zealand form, and returned to the Matamata base to continue his career.

Savile Row had his first New Zealand start as a 4YO in the Hallmark Stud Stakes at Ellerslie over 1200m and was very impressive coming from last to reel in the leader Passing Shot (Swiss Ace) in the final stride. This was more like the Savile Row of old and the entire steps out in the Thorndon Mile tomorrow as he looks to put a Group 1 tag beside his name and cement his opportunity at stud in the future.

Savile Row has had 3 wins and 4 placings and $260,000 and Leith Innes takes the mount.
