Kementari on Everyone’s Lips Heading into Guineas9 Mar 2018
Tomorrow’s A$1,000,000 Randwick Guineas will see Godolphin’s star colt Kementari look to establish himself as a stallion of the future as he looks to post his first Group 1 victory off the back of two very impressive wins in the Eskimo Prince Stakes at Warwick Farm and again in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes at his most recent outing.
The imposing son of Lonhro has certainly captured the attention of racegoers and punters unlike this preparation, looking a more mature and professional horse to the version we saw in the spring in which he finished second to Mighty Boss in the Caulfield Guineas.
There is an abundance of talent lining up in this year’s Randwick Guineas with Group 1 winners Ace High, Trapeze Artist, and Age of Fire among the opposition, while the likes of Pierata, Peaceful State, Sully, D’Argento, and Siege of Quebec are all talented three-year-olds worthy of being right in the finish. It would surprise if the winner came from outside of this group and the market has Kementari a $2.50 favourite ahead of the Chris Waller trained D’Argento at $4.80 and Pierata on the third line of betting at $6.50.
Kementari is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Yavana, making him a half-brother to the Group 1 placed two-year-old Telperion (Street Cry) who served his first book of mares at Westbury Stud in 2017.
Reliable Man gelding Sully will be open to good improvement from his first up outing in the CS Hayes Stakes where he raced on the fresh side over the 1400m, but a step up to 1600m and returning to Randwick where he recorded a Group 1 third to Ace High in the Spring Champion Stakes should be much more to his liking.« Back
