Kementari Hot Favourite for Doncaster12 Mar 2018
A huge result for the Godolphin team with their exciting three-year-old Kementari proving a decisive winner of the Randwick Guineas Gr.1. and cementing himself a position on the Darley Stallion roster in years to come, perhaps even a viable replacement for his sire Lonhro in the long term.
Kementari has met every challenge handed to him this preparation with three wins from three starts during his current campaign and the manner in which he accounted for a talented line-up on Saturday clearly sees him as one of the very best of his age this year. Jumping well from a handy barrier, Glyn Schofield allowed the big black to find his feet early, and to some he may have been a little further back than anticipated, but when things got serious, there was no doubt as to who the winner would be.
Approaching the home-bend Schofield allowed Kementari a little more rein and he was quickly ‘on the heels’ of the leaders. Told, “not to push the go button too soon” the South African waited until the 200m before putting the horse into overdrive, the response was immediate and he cruised away from his rivals for a 1.5 length victory. The ease of Kementari’s victory could not have been ore impressive, while he established a new race record of 1:33.72 for the 1600m which is a commendable effort when we understand the honour roll includes the likes of Weekend Hussler, Mentality, Mosheen, It’s A Dundeel, Dissident, Hallowed Crown, Le Romain, and Inference.
Kementari has now had 9 starts for 4 wins and 3 placings and A$1,353,250 in stakes and there is every opportunity the three-year-old is now a $4.60 favourite for the A$3,000,000 Group 1 Doncaster Handicap over the same course and distance on 7 April in which he has the luxury weight of 51.5kg.
