Cote d’Or Aims to Add Group 1 to Her Record6 Apr 2018
The highly talented Makfi mare Cote d’Or will look to add a valuable Group 1 win to her CV when she heads to the Fiber Fresh NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Te Aroha tomorrow.
Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, the royally bred mare has had a perfect preparation heading into Te Aroha and if successful will provide her trainers Ken & Bev Kelso with their third win in the race in the past five years after Xanadu in 2013 and Perfect Fit in 2016. Ironically enough Cote d’Or won the J Swap Te Aroha Cup over 2200m on the corresponding day last year, and since then the mare has gone from strength-to-strength having had five starts since for 3 wins, a second, and a fourth at distances ranging from 1200-1600m and includes a Listed win in the Team Wealleans Matamata Cup and a close fourth in the Group 2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes.
Cote d’Or is assured of being one of the high profile mares in the famed Pencarrow Stud broodmare band in years to come being a stakes winning half-sister to Dolmabache Gr.2, Pure Elegance Gr.3 and a grand-daughter of the outstanding racemare Richebourg, making her closely related to Grand Echezeaux, Darci Brahma, Burgundy, Romanee Conti, Ethereal, Eleonora, etc.
Cote d’Or will be reunited with top class jockey Danielle Johnson who will be looking to continue where she left off last Saturday where she was in a purple patch of form riding the quadrella at Awapuni including Group 1, Group 2, and Listed races. Johnson has been aboard in seven of Cote d’Or’s 8 victories.« Back
