Higher GroundBonneval Relation Wins Frank Packer Plate in Style

Higher Ground, a close relation to the current New Zealand Horse of the Year Bonneval, was an impressive winner of the Group 3 Iga Liquor Frank Packer Plate at Randwick on Saturday for Chris Waller, Glyn Schofield and owner Woppitt Bloodstock.

By the very successful Coolmore sire So You Think, Higher Ground was a A$210,000 yearling purchase for his owner Woppitt Bloodstock from the draft of Newhaven Park Stud at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and has now four of his eight starts and is likely to be aimed at a Queensland campaign focusing on the Queensland Derby.

Higher Ground is the first foal for Dark Vision, an Encosta de Lago mare who won two races in Western Australia before going to stud. Dark Vision is out of the Group 2 placed Sunnah (by Zabeel) who won on three occasions when trained by Lee Freedman and finished third to stablemate Special Harmony in the Moonee Valley Oaks and fourth in the VRC St leger which suggests Higher Ground will have no problem with the 2400m of the Queensland Derby.

Sunnah is a full sister to New Zealand Broodmare of the Year Imposingly, the dam of Champion racemare Bonneval, Full of Spirt Gr.3, Imposing Lass Gr.3, and Lady Cumquat Gr.3; while both Sunnah and Imposingly are three-quarter sisters to high class racehorses Champagne and St Reims.
