Solar Star Takes on Black Type Company at Morphettville4 May 2018
Zoustar filly Solar Star travels to Adelaide this weekend to contest the A$125,000 Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes over 1050m. The Anthony Freedman-trained two-year-old was an impressive winner at her last start where she posted an emphatic four length victory when resuming from a spell over 1100m and with top jockey Kerrin McEvoy taking the mount she should be more than competitive.
Solar Star was bred by Andrew Li along with close friends Matthew & Elizabeth Oram, and was a $190,000 purchase for the BBA Ireland/Freedman Racing at the 2017 Premier Sale at Karaka. Out of the Not a Single Doubt mare Petty Cury, Solar Star has a half-brother by I Am Invincible knocked down to the bid of Bryce Heys for $370,000 and has a half-sister by So You Think heading to Book 1 this year. Petty Cury is not infoal at present and is booked to the very exciting young sire Pierro.
Petty Cury was trained at Cambridge by Don Sellwood during her career and was a more than capable mare winning 6 of her 13 starts and putting together a winning sequence of four wins on end at one stage of her career – the last of these being a victory in the Group 3 Darley Plate at Ellerslie.
Solar Star is raced by Yarraman Park Stud (Mgr: A D Mitchell), Musk Creek Farm P/L (Mgr: D H Kobritz), Ruane Menangle (Mgr: J E Baxter), M H Oram, A M V Nicoll & A K Cooper and looks to having an exciting future having recorded a win and two placings from her four starts to date.
