BassettBassett Takes on Group Company at Doomben

Savabeel gelding Bassett heads to Brisbane this weekend to tackle Group company in the A$125,000 Flight Centre BRC Sprint over 1350m.

Bassett has been close up in good company at his most recent outings, finishing a close fourth behind Sprightly Lass over 1100m in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes at Caulfield two starts back, and posting another good effort at his most recent start in the Listed A$150,000 Wangoom at Warrnambool behind the Darren Weir-trained pair of Handsome Thief and Stellar Collision.

A dual stakes winner in Melbourne, Bassett has won five of his 29 starts for stakes of A$425,000 and is now trained at Caulfield by Mick Price after beginning his career with Peter Moody. Bassett comes into Saturday’s race at a good place in the weights having been allotted 55.5kg, and will jump from barrier 4 with Kiwi jockey Mark du Plessis picking up the ride.

Bassett was a $60,000 yearling purchase by Peter Moody at Karaka in 2014 and is out of the Captain Rio mare Fledgling, making him a close relation to the Group 1 winner Fully Fledged.
