Redwood Mares In Rich Vein of Form13 Jul 2018
Redwood mares Rosewood and Red Sierra head to Wellington on Saturday boasting strong formlines in recent weeks and both well fancied to carry on their winning ways.
Highly talented mare Rosewood will back up from an impressive win at Awapuni last week when she tackles the $40,000 Hanley Formula Whyte Handicap over 1600m at Trentham. Trained at Inglewood by her owner Marilyn Paewai, Rosewood has won three of her past four starts this preparation, including a last-to-first victory at her most recent start. The four-year-old mare will benefit from a 3kg claim for promising apprentice Wiremu Pinn and is a warm favourite with the NZ TAB at a quote of $1.80.
Another daughter of Redwood who has been in a rich vein of form this preparation is the David & Emma Haworth trained Red Sierra. The four-year-old has been very impressive, winning two of her past three starts and has struck up a wonderful rapport with apprentice Charlotte O’Beirne who takes the mount again tomorrow in the Hiremaster Handicap over 1200m against the Rating 85 horses. Red Sierra is listed as $3.00 favourite to make it back-to-back wins and like Rosewood looks to a very progressive type.
