Shellez Ace to Tackle Black Type20 Jul 2018
Impressive last start winner Shellez Ace will head to New Plymouth on Saturday where she is listed to run in the $65,000 Listed Powerworx Opunake Cup for Karyn McQuade, or alternatively she may run in the Rating 75 over the equivalent distance, but judging by the ease in which she won her last start at Hawera, she is a genuine chance in whatever race the McQuade’s choose to run her in.
Bred by Hamish and Karyn McQuade, Shellez Ace has benefitted from the patient policy her connections have extended her to date, and the rising five-year-old appears to be in the best form of her life as she tackles black type for the first time. A stablemate of quality racemare Underthemoonlight, Shellez Ace has had 12 starts for 3 wins and 5 placings and meets a very strong field tomorrow with the likes of Nashville, Taurus, Tomelilla, and New York Minute all in good form, but with 53kg under the handicap conditions of the race Shellez Ace will receive a significant pull in the weights from her more experienced rivals and is sure to make her presence felt.
Shellez Ace is sired by Swiss Ace and is out of the Pentire mare Shelly Bee who is a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Herculian Prince and descends from the great broodmare Hula Bend.« Back
