Platinum Command Scores Deserved Group Victory7 Aug 2018
Red Giant mare Platinum Command scored a much deserved black type victory when she scored an emphatic win in the Winning Edge Presentations 121st Winter Cup Gr.3 at Riccarton on Saturday. The Lisa Latta trained mare will be retiring to stud this season as the winner of 10 races and stakes of more than $300,000, but the Group victory will cement her ongoing value as a broodmare for the future.
Platinum Command went ever so close to winning the corresponding race in 2016 when going down by a nose to Miss Three Stars, while she finished close up in the 2017 edition also when finishing fourth to Nashville. Out of the Encosta de Lago mare Wednesday Rocks, Platinum Command was a $40,000 yearling purchase by Lisa Latta and was raced by long time clients Neville McAlister and Lincoln Farms (John Street) until recently when Ashburn Lane Investments Ltd were able to buy the Lincoln Farms shareholding in the mare with view to making a commercial breeding prospect.
Bred at Westbury by Gerry Harvey, Platinum Command is a half-sister to Hong Kong winner Carefree Let Go (Testa Rossa) and to last season’s juvenile winner Platinum Rapper who also races in the McAlister/Street partnership. Platinum Rapper has already shown well above average ability winning two trials before defeating stablemate Sentimental Miss (Reliable Man) and subsequent stakes winner Atenartin. A full sister to Platinum Rapper (Makfi) was purchased by Bruce Perry at Karaka in 2018 for $100,000 and their dam Wednesday Rocks is due to foal to exciting young sire Tarzino in 2018.
