Night’s Watch Makes Spring Return10 Aug 2018
Talented galloper Night’s Watch (Redwood) makes his spring return at Flemington tomorrow in the A$100,000 VRC Member Damian Cubela Handicap over 1400m.
Night’s Watch meets a strong field for his first-up assignment with the likes of Moss ‘n’ Dale, Seaburge, Odeon, Husson Eagle, Cool Chap, Flow, and Theanswermyfriend all well above average performers and more than worthy contenders.
The Darren Weir-trained five-year-old has won 6 of his 13 career starts to date and while tomorrow’s 1400m is likely to be well short for the son of Redwood, he has had 4 starts previously over the distance for 2 wins and 2 fourths, albeit in somewhat lesser company, and he is be sure to be running home strongly at the business end for Damian Lane as he looks to kick off a new campaign.
Night’s Watch was initially trained in New Zealand by Peter & Dawn Williams where he won on debut at Ellerslie before transferring to Darren Weir last year. The horse has since had 9 starts in Australia for Weir, recording 5 wins, a second, and two fourths and adding stakes of A$230,000 to his New Zealand tally.
Night’s Watch is out of the Exceed and Excel mare Glory Run, a daughter of the Group 1 winning mare Penny Gem (Pentire) and comes from the family of Entirely Platinum, Foxy Blonde, Ash Blond, Altrista, Alynda, Zalinda, Capestad, and Hit the Roof. Glory Run sold a Reliable Man colt at the 2018 Magic Millions Sale for A$400,000 to the bid of Richard Laming, has a yearling filly by Reliable Man, and is due to foal to Redwood in the upcoming months.« Back
