Mary Books Te Aroha Victory

Mary's Book has limited racing opportunities ahead of her and she took full advantage of the one presented at Te Aroha to put another win on the board. The clock is ticking for Westbury Stud-bred mare who came with a sustained finish down the outside of the track to account for her metric mile rivals.

"She won't have that many more chances as she's in foal to Captain Rio," said Pukekohe co-trainer Gareth McRae, who prepares the five-year-old with Garry Newham. "She was very well and we were quite confident she would run well."

Mary's Book had finished fourth at Te Awamutu at her previous appearance when returning from a four-month break. "She got home late there and had trained on very well and we always thought she would act on these faster types of tracks."

The daughter of Pyrus, who had recorded her previous two victories on heavy ground, is out of the winning Fiesta Star mare Outraging who is a half-sister to the Australian stakes winner and Gr 2 performer Nassabidi. It is also the family of Gr 1 Blue Diamond winner Canonise.
