Fledgling Victory For Richly-Bred Filly

A Captain Rio filly with significant residual value added her own performance to a Gr 1 pedigree when Fledgling won the opening event at today's Tauranga meeting. The lightly-tried three-year-old is a half-sister to Diamond Stakes winner Fully Fledged, who was also stakes placed in Australia.

Trained by John Sargent at Matamata, Fledgling was making her fifth raceday appearance when she accounted for a big field over 1300 metres in the hands of leading rider Mark Du Plessis. She had previously weighed in twice and more wins look in store for the chestnut filly.

Fledgling's second dam is the Australian stakes winner Snippets' Show with Group winners Cheval Place, Patpong, Show and Chakvetadze also featuring in her family.
