Westbury Has Karaka Connection To Lonhro's Big Day

The former Woodlands and now Darley 11 time Gr.1 winning World Champion Miler and Australian Racehorse of the Year Lonhro had an Australia Day to remember yesterday with the performances of his progeny.

Lonhro was represented by his talented son Denman in the Listed $100,000 Zeditave Stakes 1200m who proved too good for his rivals with a stylish win.

The Peter Snowdon trained colt  was fresh up after a spell and looked like he had come back bigger and better when he run away for a one and a half length victory over Carrara and Spacecraft.

Snowdon was associated with both Lonhro and his sire Octagonal and believed Denman, winner of 2009 Gr.1 Golden Rose 1400m, was on a par with both horses at the same stage of their respective race careers.

Denman will now head to the Gr.1 CF Orr Stakes over 1400m on February 6.

Westbury Stud will offer one of only three Lonhro's on offer in the NZB Karaka Premier Sale in the form of Lot 169 black filly out of the O'Reilly mare, Siuya.

On type Lot 169 is very much in the mould of her sire while she lacks nothing on her dam side with Siuya being a half sister to the Gr.2 winning stallion Scaredee Cat, and has left two foals to race both of  which have won.

Yesterday also saw Lonhro notch his 100 individual winner when the Clarry Connors trained Ellehro scored at Nowra in New South Wales while Nosugar also saluted the judge for the third time for Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra at Caulfield.
