Crystal Lily Provides Freshman Sire Stratum with first Stakes Winner

Golden Slipper winner Stratum notched his first stakes winner as a sire yesterday when his two-year-old daughter Crystal Lily won the Listed $100,000 Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) at Caulfield.

Stratum a son of Redoute's Choice is closely related to resident Westbury Stud stallion Cecconi (Encosta de Lago) himself a winner of the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (Colts).

Trained by Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra, Crystal Lily was backed in prior to post time and justified her favouritism when she cleared out for a three length win in a quicker time than Innocent Gamble in the colts version of the race.

Stratum was also represented in the Blue Diamond Preview (Colts) by Pellizotti who produced an eye catching run for third.

Many good judges have been impressed with the quality of Cecconi's first foals born in 2009 and we are excited about the future of this young stallion.
