By leading European sire Pivotal, Captain Rio was a high class two and three year old sprinter with an Annual Timeform rating of 122. Retired to stud in 2004 Captain Rio has made an auspicious start to his stud career, siring New Zealand's  Champion 2YO filly Il Quello Veloce from his first southern hemisphere crop and a further three stakeswinners from his initial European crop.

Standing at stud for the first time in 2008, Cecconi is a son of Australia's Champion Sire Encosta de Lago and was trained throughout his career by international trainer David Hayes at Lindsay Park. The winner of the Blue Diamond Preview at two in a very smart 57.7 seconds for the 1000m, Cecconi is out of the dual stakeswinner Tonicity and closely related to Golden Slipper Stakes winner Stratum.
