STALLION STUD GROOM, Karaka

Westbury Stud Karaka is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic person to join one of New Zealand's leading thoroughbred stud farms to work alongside our stallions.

Previous handling of thoroughbreds or standard bred stallions is essential as well as a positive attitude and a team player.

This is a seasonal role with potential to become a permanent position in the future.

New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa is essential.

YEARLING STUD GROOM, Matamata

An opportunity to join Westbury's Matamata team has become available to assist with the preparation of our yearling draft for sales in 2018.

The role includes general care and handling of the yearlings throughout preparation - grooming, washing, exercise (horse walker and hand walking), feeding, mucking out, recognising horse lamness/injuries and assisting in administration of treatments.

Applicants should possess a strong work ethic, work well in a team and independently if required, ability to use initiative, have sound horse skills (although training is available), an eagerness to learn, and be well-presented and professionally mannered at all times.

NZ residency or a valid work visa is essential.

Positions Available for the 2017 Breeding Season, Matamata

Westbury Stud is seeking staff to fulfill a variety of roles at the Matamata farm for the 2017 breeding season.

The positions we have available are:

      1. Stud Groom - Breeding

This role requires a person to assist in all day-to-day duties in Westbury's breeding operation. Experience is preferred but not essential as training is available.

      2. Foaling Unit

This role requires a person to assist in the foaling unit. The successful applicant will have strong attention to detail with the ability to act quickly and accordingly, experience handling foals and administering treatments.

      3. Foal Watch

Night Watch - this role requires a person to assist in monitoring the mares at night. The night watch position commences early August.

Day Watch - this role requires a person to assist in monitoring the mares throughout the day. The day watch position commences early September.

The successful applicants for night/day foal watch will have strong attention to detail with the ability to act quickly and accordingly, experience in foal watch is preferred.

Successful applicants will possess a strong work ethic, work well in a team and independently if required, have the ability to use initiative, be physically fit, have an eagerness to learn, and be well-presented and professionally mannered at all times.

NZ residency or a valid work visa is essential.
