YEARLING STUD GROOM, Karaka & MatamataKaraka 2017 Sales Staff

An opportunity to join Westbury's yearling team has arisen involving assistance with the preparation of our yearling draft for the 2017-18 season, including Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and the Gold Coast National Yearling Sale Series, and Karaka's National Yearling Sales Series.

Duties include:

  • General care and handling of the yearlings throughout preparation - Grooming, Washing, Exercise (horse walker & hand walking), Feeding, Mucking Out
  • Recognising horse lameness, injuries, and take the necessary steps to treat the horse and assist in administration of treatments
  • Assistance in other areas on the farm when required - Foaling, Broodmares, Breeding Shed etc
  • Experience handling colts is advantageous but is not essential

Applicants for this position should possess a strong work ethic, be assiduous, work well in a team and independently if required, ability to use initiative, have sound horse skills (although training is available), and be well-presented and professionally mannered at all times.

NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa is essential.

Salary is subject to experience. Accommodation maybe available.

BREEDING STUD GROOM, Karaka & Matamata Mare Foal

Westbury is seeking a Stud Groom to assist in the breeding operation.

Duties include:

  • Day to day care of bloodstock - ensure all horses are adequately cared for in every aspect
  • Recognising horse lameness, injuries, and take the necessary steps to treat the horse and assist in administration of treatment
  • Assisting vets, farriers, dentist etc
  • General stable duties - Yard Work, Mucking Out, Feeding etc
  • Assisting in feed regimes for horses
  • Assist in handling of all horses for daily exercise regimes
  • Preparing mares for service
  • Thorough checking of horses on the farm and advising key information to Stallion/Breeding Manager

Applicants for this position should possess a strong work ethic, be assiduous, work well in a team and independently if required, ability to use initiative, have sound horse skills (although training is available), and be well-presented and professionally mannered at all times.
