TamarackBonneval Relation Shows Family Ability

A close relation to Horse of the Year Bonneval showed a glimpse of the family ability when he came from back in the field to win the A$40,000 TAB Handicap at Canterbury on Friday evening. Tamarack, a gelding by Redwood from Our Squeezer, is prepared by Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride and has always possessed his share of ability; but Friday was his first attempt at a journey past 1600m and he handled it in excellent style.

Tamarack settled back in the field early on in the 1900m event for Jay Ford and looked in a little difficulty of getting a run as the field came to the turn, before coming off heels and sprinting hard to reel in the leaders Newtown Bluebag (Lope de Vega) and Allez Bien (O’Reilly) over the concluding stages.

Tamarack is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Our Squeezer – a half-sister to Bonneval, Imposing Lass, Full of Spirit, & Lady Cumquat – who won twice from the stable of Stephen McKee and finished fifth in the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic as a 3YO. Our Squeezer’s first foal Swiss Beauty (Swiss Ace) has won twice for Darren Weir while her 2YO daughter by I Am Invincible has just joined the Weir stable. Our Squeezer has a Exosphere colt at foot and is currently infoal to Coolmore Stud sire Pierro.

Tamarack was a $90,000 purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds Jamie Walter and is raced by the syndication company along with Mr F W Cook, Mrs C M Cook, Mr P B Newsom, Mr A N Wales, Mr A M Whitehouse, Mr A N McMaster, Ms E A McMaster, Mr R D Turner, Mr R A Caldwell, Mr T D F Hughes, Ms B A Mcloughlin, Mr L J Gray, Mr C T H Cropper.
