Red Sierra Looking to Group 3 Feature Next16 Jul 2018
The Redwood mare Red Sierra is in dynamic form at present, winning three of her past four starts, and her winning effort at Trentham on Saturday indicated that she will not be out of her depth when she heads to Riccarton to contest the Group 3 Winter Cup in a few weeks.
The four-year-old has developed a fantastic rapport with stable apprentice Charlotte O’Beirne this season, with the pair quite happy to just roll along at the rear of the field and quicken up at the business end of her races, a racing pattern which is becoming a notable trademark in Red Sierra’s victories of late. Red Sierra started her current campaign at Wanganui on 2 June with an impressive last-to-first win in a Rating 65 race over 1340m, the mare leap-frogged to open company at her next start where she ran a credible third to Shellez Ace over 1300m at Egmont before returning to the winner’s circle in impressive fashion at Hawkes Bay in Rating 75 grade.
From the first crop of Redwood, Red Sierra was a $10,000 purchase by David and Emma Haworth at the Karaka Select Sale in 2015 and is well on the way to looking a profitable investment for her syndicate of owners having won 5 of her 12 career starts and more than $61,500 in stakes.
