Red Sierra Set to Cap Off Profitable Winter3 Aug 2018
The David & Emma Haworth trained Red Sierra will be looking to cap off a fantastic run of form when she starts as the favourite for tomorrow’s Group 3 Winning Edge Presentations 121st Winter Cup at Riccarton. The Redwood mare has won three of her four starts this season and heads into the time-honoured event with an impressive last to first victory at Trentham in July.
Red Sierra has won up to 1400m and while she dropped back to 1200m at Trentham, her style of racing suggests the 1600m should hold no fears for the bonny little mare. Coming in on the minimum weight with just 53kg, Red Sierra will have a change of rider in tomorrow’s race with senior hoop Rosie Myers replacing stable apprentice Charlotte O’Beirne who has developed a formidable relationship with the horse this season.
Platinum Command (Red Giant) is another who comes into the race at a dangerous place in the weights with just 53kg and the mare was narrowly beaten in the event two years ago when going down by just a nose to Miss Three Stars, while the mare finished a good fourth to Nashville in the corresponding event last year.
