Julius Returns to the Races3 Aug 2018
Highly talented sprinter Julius (Swiss Ace) returns to the racetrack at Te Rapa tomorrow when he contests the Allied Security Open over 1200m. The winner of his last three starts including the Darley Plate Gr.3 and the Concorde Handicap Gr.3, Julius kicks off his campaign tomorrow with a view to getting to the Group 1 Tarzino Trophy at Hawkes Bay on 1 September. Julius meets a talented line-up tomorrow which includes last year’s Tarzino Trophy winner Close Up, Contessa Vanessa, Southern Icon, Magnum and company; and safely through Saturday Julius will be back at Te Rapa for the Group 2 Foxbridge Plate.
Trained at Cambridge by John Bell, Julius has always been a serious talent with 6 wins, 3 seconds and a third from his 10 career starts while his ability to handle all track conditions will make him a strong spring contender in the weeks ahead. Julius will be ridden in tomorrow’s race by Jason Waddell who has had two previous mounts on the seven-year-old for two wins, one of which was his last start in the Darley Plate at Ellerslie.
Julius is out of the Danzero mare Oh So Royal who sold a colt to DGR Thoroughbreds/John Thompson at this year’s Premier Sale at Karaka for $220,000.« Back
