Romancer Makes Australian Debut7 Sep 2018
Former New Zealand stakes winner Romancer will make his Australian debut tomorrow when he steps out in the A$45,000 Hyland Racecolours Handicap over 1200m at Morphettville.
Previously trained at Ruakaka by Donna Logan & Chris Gibbs Romancer transferred to the stable of Darren Weir after his third placing in the Group 2 Easter Handicap at Pukekohe and has had a steady build up for his first Australian outing having trialled twice heading into Saturday with his most recent seeing him finish a close second to the talented Fastnet Tempo.
A striking son of Redwood, Romancer was bred by Gerry Harvey and Craig Dawson's Whangateau Thoroughbreds and is now part-owned by OTI Racing.
Winner of the Listed Mufhasa Stakes as a three-year-old, his most recent campaign has seen him finish a close second to Julius (Swiss Ace) in the Concorde Handicap Gr.3 and while the 1200m could be short of Romancer's best trip, a repeat of his effort to finish just a length behind Julius would see him very competitive in a fresh state.
