El RocaFirst Rock in More Ways Than One

Exciting young sire El Roca is scheduled to have his first runner at Wanganui with the aptly named First Rock accepted for the Wanganui Steelformers Juvenile Plate over 800m.

Trained by Debbie Sweeney (nee Sanders) at Te Awamutu, First Rock was raced by her breeders, Sanders Racing Stables #1 Fillies Breeding Syndicate L.P., and has not been sighted at trials to date but the Sanders family have an enviable record in this race over the years with grandfather Bill making the race his own and Debbie’s father Graeme carrying on the tradition using this race to kick off their early two-year-olds.

First Rock is out of the Monashee Mountain mare Kirra who won over 1200m in Australia and did appear to handle rain effected ground, while First Rock’s half-brother Our Beeskees (Nom de Jeu) finished third on debut behind Espumoso on debut last season and finished fourth in the Listed Champagne Stakes behind Rubira & Ole Ole in April.

El Roca’s first yearlings sold up to A$210,000 and are some of Australasia’s best stables including Darren Weir, Mick Price, David Hayes, Greg Eurell, Anthony Freedman, Gai Waterhouse, Bjorn Baker, Trent Busuttin, Shaune Ritchie, Murray Baker, Stephen Marsh, Lisa Latta, etc.
