Redwood Mares Chase Black Type14 Sep 2018
The Redwood mares Rosewood and Red Sierra will be chasing black type when they contest the $80,000 Boehringer Ingelheim at Awapuni tomorrow. Both mares have been in a purple patch of form in recent months and a win in tomorrow’s feature would be a just reward for consistency during their current preparation.
Owned and trained by Marilyn Paewai, Rosewood comes into the race as the winner of five of her past seven starts and finished third to Dolcetto and Authentic Paddy in the corresponding event and it would not surprise to see her score an overdue black type win come Saturday. The gutsy little mare will have a change in jockey tomorrow with regular rider Lisa Allpress electing to ride Dez in the race, but Rosewood will lose nothing on the score of horsemanship with top hoop Rosie Myers taking over the reins.
Red Sierra is another daughter of Redwood who has put up some very good performances in her recent starts and comes into the Group 3 race on Saturday on just 53kg, receiving 7kg from the topweights Underthemoonlight and Authentic Paddy. Red Sierra stepped out at Wanganui last week but never got into the race after settling well back in the running. Red Sierra did not have the blinkers on last week and will have the gear re-fitted for Saturday and on her earlier form, she should be finishing the race off well.« Back
