The Heiress In Purple Patch of Form17 Sep 2018
The Kevin Hickman bred and owned The Heiress capped off a purple patch of form in the $25,000 Nufarm/FPA NZ Handicap at Awapuni on Saturday as she careered away for win number three from her past four starts and stamped herself as a very progressive horse indeed.
Trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman at Cambridge, The Heiress started her winning run at Hawkes Bay back in July when winning over 1650m before backing up for a second victory at Woodville. The Redwood mare broke her winning sequence at Waverley at her last start where she ended up down on the inside on a heavy surface and battled away to finish third behind Dark Princess.
The Heiress atoned her last start defeat with a strong victory on Saturday travelling in fifth place for Lisa Allpress and careering towards the finish once in the clear. The daughter of Redwood has been a very consistent mare for her connections, winning three of her eleven career starts and failing on just two occasions to fill a first five spot.
The aptly named The Heiress is out of the Pins mare Paris Hilton, a granddaughter of the very good mare Harp (Sobig) who won a Hawkes Bay Cup and was placed in the Auckland Cup and is also the granddam of Miltak who won a BMW Stakes, Auckland Cup and New Zealand Oaks.
