Swiss Ace ParadeSmart Melody Carries on Unbeaten Record in Cap d’Antibes Stakes

The Gooree Stud owned Smart Melody looked to be one out of the bag as she sprinted away from her rivals at Flemington in the Listed Cap d’Antibes Stakes on Saturday. The Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) filly was recording her fourth career victory from just four starts and looks to be an emerging star for Newcastle trainer Kris Lees.

Smart Melody won by an impressive 5 lengths on debut as a two-year-old at Newcastle before scoring just as easily at her first foray in the city when she won at Canterbury at the end of June. Given a short break, Smart Melody did not reappear until the end of August when she won by 1.5 lengths at Wyong.

Lees headed to Melbourne with the unbeaten filly last week and she showed good natural pace to travel comfortably on the speed before letting down impressively to run the last 600m in 33.39 seconds and changing gears yet again at the 200m to put her rivals away over the final 200m with a brilliant 11:26 split – the fastest last 200m of the day at Flemington!

Smart Melody is out of the stakes winning Sweetest Melody (Encosta de Lago), a half-sister to the Group placed Well Noted (Jade Robbery) and out of Ornamental Rose (Catrail), a half-sister to Listed winner Sir Success. Smart Melody’s fourth dam is the very well-bred Tennis Partner (Northern Dancer).

Tennis Partner is a full sister to the Champion Sprinter and high class 2YO Ajdal, winner of the July Cup and the Dewhurst Stakes, as well as the William Hill Sprint Championship and the Haydock Sprint Cup and the Craven Stakes. Tennis Partner is also a half-sister to Group 1 winning juvenile and successful sire Formidable, Flying Partner, Fabuleux Jane, Fabuleux Dancer, and Danseur Fabuleux (dam of Arazi and Noverre).

Tennis Partner is also the fourth dam of the successful sire Swiss Ace.
