Tamarack Well Placed in Sydney21 Sep 2018
Redwood gelding Tamarack looks perfectly placed to be a serious contender in the last race at Rosehill on Saturday when he contests the A$120,000 Fugen Handicap over 2000m. Tamarack will be having his fourth start back in this campaign and has been “knocking on the door” at his last couple of runs for Joe Pride and comes into Saturday’s race with just 53kg and top hoop Brenton Avdulla climbs aboard.
Bred by Peter Newsom, Mac Whitehouse, and Tony Wales Tamarack is raced by Jamie Walter’s Proven Thoroughbreds, F W Cook, Mrs C M Cook, A N McMaster, Mrs E A McMaster, R D Turner, R A Caldwell, T D F Hughes, Ms B A Mcloughlin, L J Gray, C T H Cropper along with his breeders. Tamarack was a $90,000 yearling purchase at Karaka by Jamie Walter and is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Our Squeezer, a half-sister to Bonneval, Imposing Lass, Lady Cumquat, and Full of Spirit.
Tamarack was very good at his last start where he fought on strongly at Rosehill two weeks ago to finish second behind Zourkhan after doing plenty of work in the early stages and sticking to his task well over the 1800m. Prior to this, Tamarack was close up behind the Chris Waller import High Bridge over 1900m when giving away 2.5kg to that horse and the form was franked when High Bridge made it back-to-back victories with an impressive win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
Tamarack is a lightly tried horse with just 18 starts to his credit for 3 wins and 7 placings and more than A$130,000 in stakes, and he looks to be in for a good season.
