First Rock to Go One Better21 Sep 2018
Impressive two-year-old First Rock will look to go one better on Sunday at Counties when she contests the Colliers International 2YO over 800m. The El Roca filly made her debut at Wanganui three weeks ago and after having no luck in the run, she still looked the winner with 100m to run until the more experienced Sai Fah kicked back to win by a length.
Trained by Debbie Sweeney at Te Awamutu, First Rock is the first runner for her sire and should take considerable improvement from her Wanganui outing which was her first public appearance. While she will be going in the opposite direction at Pukekohe, her work previously had all been done right-handed and she should have no trouble with the dog-leg at Counties.
It is fair to suggest that First Rock will be meeting stronger opposition at Counties where she will face off against six individual trial winners, one of these being the Gerry Harvey bred Thousandkissesdeep (Sepoy-Cast Your Vote) from the Nigel Tiley barn. Trained on the track, Thousandkissesdeep has had one trial for an impressive win at Counties and is sure to give a good sight on her home track.« Back
