Hypnos 1Reliable Man Three-Year-Olds Looking the Goods

We have seen a number of young horses by exciting young sire Reliable Man step out in recent weeks which all augurs well for the stallion’s profile in the months ahead. Among those to impress in recent weeks have been Hypnos, Leading Girl, Amano, and Aalaalune while Sully, Trusty Lad, and War Hero have all returned in good shape.

The Roger James and Robert Wellwood trained Hypnos made his debut at Waipukurau on Thursday and vindicated the high opinion his trainers have had of the 3YO after trialling well in recent weeks. Ridden by Jason Waddell, Hypnos was keen to get on with things early, but settled in the back half of the race early and showed good acceleration to claim the warm favourite Satu Lagi with 50m to run and going on for a comfortable half length victory at the line.

Raced by long time clients of the stable, Ron and Fran Dixon, Hypnos was a $50,000 purchase for James at the Karaka Select Sale and his performance today suggested there is plenty of improvement to come in the months ahead and promises to be serious racehorse for his connections.

Hypnos is out of the Elusive Quality mare Quality Dream, a daughter of the Group 2 winner Dreamworks, and granddaughter of the very good mare Slanchyvah. Quality Dream has a two-year-old colt by Reliable Man who was purchased for $75,000 by Peter Williams earlier this year, and the stud will offer another full brother to Hypnos at Karaka in January. Quality Dream is due to foal to Redwood in 2018 and will return to Reliable Man.

Reliable Man was also represented by an impressive two-year-old winner at the Te Teko trials on Tuesday when Aalaalune won over 800m. Sold by Westbury Stud, the impressive looking filly was a $230,000 purchase for Te Kouti Bloodstock/Graham Richardson and looks a talented individual. Aalaalune is out of the Fastnet Rock mare Veva Girl who is out of the high class stakes winner Barawin and closely related to the Godolphin Stars Viridine and Osborne Bulls.
