Suliman Out to Make it Four in a Row12 Oct 2018
The Graham Richardson/Gavin Parker trained Suliman will be looking to make it four wins in a row when he tackles the Colchester Engineering Ltd handicap over 2000m on his home track at Matamata on Saturday.
The son of Redwood looks a Cups horse in the making and his last start win at Te Aroha was most impressive when coming from the tail of the field to win with a bit in hand over the 1600m, a distance which could well be considered short of his best trip. A $50,000 yearling purchase from Westbury Stud, Suliman has been a work in progress and the patient policy applied by his trainers is starting to reap healthy rewards for his large group of owners.
Suliman has won twice at 2100m previously which should make the 2000m on Saturday an ideal step up for him on Saturday, while the Redwood gelding appears very versatile in respect of track conditions, having performed on tracks rated Good through to Heavy. A win on Saturday could well see his trainers targeting loftier heights with raw staying talent with a number of the summer cups races being up for consideration.
Opposing Suliman on Saturday is another Westbury-bred horse with good form in Athena Baby (Swiss Ace) who has not been further back than fifth at his past five starts and the John Bell trained gelding was a handy third over the distance (and on the track) at his most recent start, while he will benefit greatly from the 4kg allowance provided with Ashvin Goindasamy in the saddle.
