Swiss AceSwiss Aces Looking Forward to a Return to Ellerslie

With the long-awaited return of racing at Ellerslie tomorrow, it is exciting to see Swiss Ace with some talented horses entered at headquarters.

In Race 2 the Richard Yuill trained She’s A Lady (ex Pantomime) is one of eleven first starters entered for the Partners Life Handicap over 880m. Bred and owned by Katrina Dansted, Cliff Matson, & David Tarring She’s a Lady was an impressive trial winner at Ruakaka recently and from barrier 4 at the gate she should be able to use her natural speed to be a competitive chance in the race with Sam Spratt taking the mount.

She’s A Lady is out of the Pins mare Pantomime, making her a half-sister to the stakes placed Achilles Sword, while second dam Zephuros is a daughter of the high class mare Zepherin who won the NZ Oaks and is the dam of the Surround Stakes winner Glenview.

In Race 4, the Mondiale Handicap over 1400m, Swiss Ace has three runners engaged with impressive last start winner Swisswatch, Staccato, and Hatton Garden all worthy chances. Swisswatch (ex Deutche) from the Shaune Ritchie stable was an impressive winner on the last day at Hawkes Bay when heavily supported, and with the 4kg allowance for stable apprentice Eilish McCall he will come back to 56.5kg on Saturday but has to contend with a wide barrier at 12.

One for better odds and with a good chance in the race is Hatton Garden (ex Hot Rocks) for Jenna Mahoney. The Swiss Ace mare had no luck when resuming over 1200m at Tauranga, being slow away before being wiped out at the 900m, so her effort to finish sixth beaten just 2 lengths behind Donna Anne Billy and running home her last 600m in 33.37 seconds was very good. The form was franked again last Saturday at Rotorua when Donna Anne Billy made it back-to-back wins when winning easily over 1400m in Rating 82 grade. The step to 1400m should prove to be a huge advantage for Hatton Garden with the mare’s best form being at this distance.
