Grinzinger Star the Reliable Man for VRC Derby2 Nov 2018
Three-year-old colt Grinzinger Star has been building nicely to tomorrow’s feature at Flemington, the AAMI VRC Derby, and his third placing in last week’s Geelong Classic LR suggests Danny O’Brien has the Reliable Man peaking for the 2500m feature.
Grinzinger Star has been very consistent in his five career starts to date with a win over 2200m two starts back at Ballarat and three third placings, one of these in the Geelong Classic which has been a traditional lead up to the Derby. A further big plus in the colt’s favour is the booking of Damien Oliver for the three-year-old. Oliver has been the regular rider of Grinzinger Star throughout his career and his connections will be heartened by the fact the leading rider has elected to stay with him for the Derby.
Bred at The Oaks Stud, Grinzinger Star is the second foal of the NZ Oaks winner Artistic and should have no trouble with the distance of tomorrow’s Derby if his pedigree comes into play.
Reliable Man had two runners from his first crop (Sully and Main Stage) run in last year’s Derby to finish second and fifth, a win this year would be a reward just for going so close in 2017!
