Romancer Scores Donald Cup Win for Weir19 Nov 2018
The Darren Weir trained Romancer broke through for his first victory on Australian soil on Sunday when scored a convincing win over Fastnet Latino in the A$70,000 Donald Cup over 1600m and made it win number five from just 20 starts.
Raced by OTI Racing, Craig Dawson, Donna Logan, Deb Miliken, Kate Miliken, Lesley Warwick and partners, Romancer has taken a little time to find his form in Australia but travelled boldly outside the leader yesterday and looked to have the race won a long way from home.
As a three-year-old Romancer won the Listed Mufhasa Stakes at Ellerslie from the stable of Donna Logan & Chris Gibbs, and earlier this year he recorded Group placings in the Concorde Handicap and the Easter Handicap. Romancer has been a loyal servant for his ownership group winning five races in all and returning a cheque at 19 of his 20 career starts, a pattern which is sure to follow now that he has found his winning mojo.
Romancer was the second impressive winner for his sire Redwood over the weekend after the Joe Pride trained Tamarack ran out a convincing winner in the A$120,000 Summer Racing Handicap over 2400m at Rosehill Gardens and stamped himself as a progressive stayer in Sydney.« Back
