Romancer 4Romancer Heads Up Wodonga Gold Cup Field

Redwood gelding Romancer heads up the field for today’s A$100,000 McCrae Motors Wodonga Gold Cup over 1590m and will look to continue the excellent run that trainer Darren Weir and stable jockey John Allen have had in recent weeks. The Weir/Allen combination have been on fire during the spring carnival with wins ranging from Country Cups to a VRC Derby and the juggernaut looks set to continue in the weeks ahead as the summer unfolds.

Racing in the OTI Thoroughbreds colours, Romancer was a convincing winner of the Donald Cup at his most recent start and a repeat performance would see him being one of the hardest to beat in the country feature. Romancer has had six starts for Weir – often without much luck – and finally put it all together when he was simply too good for his opposition at Donald.

Formerly trained by the Logan/Gibbs stable at Pukekohe, Romancer has won five of his 20 career starts including the Listed Mufhasa Stakes at Ellerslie and a win today would take his earnings past the $200,000 mark.
