Night's Watch DLaneNight’s Watch Resumes at Caulfield

Talented gelding Night’s Watch (Redwood) resumes in today’s A$160,000 Group 3 JC Hodges TS Carlyon Cup over 1600m at Caulfield as heads towards his main target of the $1,500,000 Australian Cup on 9 March. Recently transferred to the stable of Ciaron Maher & David Eustace after being embroiled in the Darren Weir saga, Night’s Watch went close to winning over 1400m when in a fresh state at Flemington in the spring, and the 1600m of today’s race should hold no fears for the talented middle distance horse.

Night’s Watch rose to a new level during his most recent campaign, narrowly beaten in the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes over 1600m before winning the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes over 2000m. Safely through Saturday’s race the five-year-old will go to the A$200,000 Peter Young Stakes over 1800m back at Caulfield two weeks later, before heading to the Australian Cup on 9 March at Flemington.

Night’s Watch will be reunited with Damian Lane in the Carlyon Cup, Lane has had three rides on the horse for two wins and a second and built a strong affinity with the son of Redwood.
