Small But Elite Field for Randwick Sprint8 Mar 2019
The $500,000 Group 1 Canterbury League Club Stakes has attracted a small but select field at Randwick on Saturday with the elite entires Kementari, Pierata, and Trapeze Artist taking on Group 1 sprinting star Shoals and up and coming three-year-old Brutal.
Kementari, a half-brother to Westbury stallion Telperion, resumed with a brave effort to dead-heat for second in the CF Orr Stakes Gr.1 at Caulfield behind Manuel and he will have a gear change on Saturday with the blinkers going back on as he comes back a 100m in distance to the 1300m.
Ironically Kementari’s last win came at the corresponding meeting last year when he defeated two of tomorrow’s rivals – Pierata and Trapeze Artist – in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas; and while he might not have won since 10 March 2018 the black stallion has produced some outstanding efforts with Group 1 placings in the George Ryder Stakes, Memsie Stakes, Manikato Stakes, and CF Orr Stakes.
James McDonald retains the mount on Kementari at Randwick after riding him for the first time in the Orr Stakes, and there is no doubt if he can find his form of last autumn he will be the one to beat.
