Schist Form Strong Lead-In to NZ Oaks15 Mar 2019
Reliable Man filly Schist has the perfect form guide to the NZ Oaks after running a good second at Otaki to Vodafone NZ Derby placegetter Platinum Invador in her first attempt at a middle distance three weeks ago, and one would suggest that with natural improvement that it could be a sense of perfect timing for the Allan Sharrock trained filly.
Sharrock has held Schist in high regard for some time and has made no secret of the fact the NZ Oaks has been his target for a long time, and the filly’s pedigree also has a ring of an “Oaks winner” about it with her dam Torlundy being by Zabeel from the NZ Oaks winner Tartan Tights. Sharrock purchased Schist for $95,000 at the Select Sale at Karaka in 2017 on behalf of Ron and Noel Stanley who have had great success with the horses including champion Wahid and the very good two-year-old Grout (Gold Brose).
Schist had no luck in the barrier draw department, coming up with 22 and destined to start from barrier 18 of 18 when it comes to post time, while South Island jockey Jason Laking will take the mount on the filly come Saturday.
Reliable Man has a second runner in the field for the NZ Oaks on Saturday with the talented Sentimental Miss primed for a big performance after running a strong second to Imelda Mary in the Sir Tristram Fillies Classic two starts back. Trained by Lisa Latta at Awapuni, Sentimental Lass had no luck in the Lowland Stakes at her last start and will have the blinkers added to her gear for Saturday.
Owned by the Go Racing Yesteryear Syndicate, Sentimental Miss will be ridden by Lisa Allpress and should have no trouble with the trip being out of the Quest For Fame mare Nostalgic.
