Sentimental MissNZ Oaks a Sentimental Result for Reliable Man

The win of Go Racing’s Sentimental Miss in Saturday’s Al Basti Equiworld NZ Oaks provided sire Reliable Man with a well overdue success at the top level when she outstayed her rivals in determined fashion and posted a 1.3 length win over Beyond the Fort (Niagara) and Star Karen (Camelot).

The win of Sentimental Miss in the Oaks capped off a run of frustrating seconds in major Group 1 races for Reliable Man after Sully (second in VRC Derby), Belle du Nord (second in Levin Classic) and just last week Aalaalune finishing a desperately close second in the Sistema Stakes at Ellerslie; while the Lisa Latta trained filly became the third individual stakes winner in New Zealand for Reliable Man since December after Belle du Nord took out the Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes at Te Rapa and Hypnos winning the Uncle Remus Stakes at Ellerslie.

The ninth foal of her dam Nostalgic (Quest for Fame), Sentimental Miss was bred by The Oaks Stud in Cambridge (major shareholders in Reliable Man) and comes from the a family once owned by Jack and Bob Ingham’s Woodlands Stud with Nostalgic being a full sister to Group 1 winner Dracula, and a half-sister to stakes winners Sash and The Oscars; while another full sibling Insouciance is the dam of Complacent and Ataraxia.

Sentimental Miss was a $40,000 yearling purchase for Albert Bosma’s Go Racing team and looks an outstanding purchase for her owners the Go Racing Yesteryear Syndicate who have a valuable filly on their hands.
