Night’s Watch to Group 1 Ranvet Stakes22 Mar 2019
Redwood gelding Night’s Watch heads to Sydney this weekend for the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill and the rain which has been present in Sydney should not cause any concern for the talented five-year-old with his record boasting 2 wins and 2 placings from 6 starts on a slow track, and 1 win from 1 start on heavy track – the track is currently rated a heavy 8.
Raced by OTI Racing and partners, Night’s Watch is now trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace and resumed with a third in the Carlyon Cup Gr.3 and a fourth in the Peter Young Stakes Gr.2 before being beaten five lengths in the Australian Cup.
The winner of 8 of his 22 starts and more than A$475,000 in prizemoney, Night’s Watch will have the services of top hoop Ben Melham who takes his first ride on the horse.
If Night’s Watch can run well in the Group 1 feature he will continue a good run of form for his sire in recent months after the smart Rock on Wood resumed with a stunning win at Hawkes Bay, Platinum Invador an unlucky third in the NZ Derby, High Mode winning the A$300,000 Jericho Cup in December, smart 3YO Sword in Stone, Te Quiera, Red Valentine, Hi Sierra, and Jade Fortune winning at Pakenham last night.
