Star Act on his Way to Bigger and Better Things29 Mar 2019
Talented four-year-old Rock on Wood (Redwood) will be one to follow out of Saturday’s racing as he steps out for the second time this campaign in the Ricoh Premier for the Rating 82 horses after a super impressive victory at his return a month ago at Hawkes Bay.
Rock on Wood looked to be a very talented horse as a three-year-old, finishing a close fourth in the Group 1 Levin Classic at just his third start and followed that up with a win over the smart Sherrif and a fourth in the Waikato Guineas Gr.2. The winner of 3 of his 7 starts, Rock on Wood had a long spell after the Waikato Guineas and was not seen back on a racetrack until Hawkes Bay last month where he put up a herculean performance to lump 60.5kg, come from an impossible position, and post what looked a somewhat easy victory in the end.
The step in grade should hold no barriers for Rock on Wood and the 1600m of the Ricoh Premier looks made to order for him at this stage. Trained by part-owner Leeane Elliot, only bad luck should be the cause of Rock on Wood adding another victory to his already impressive record. The black gelding will be ridden by Ryan Elliot, son of the trainer, who knows the horse well, while the 57.5kg he carries on Saturday sees him well in the race.« Back
