Rapper Looking to the Beat of Black Type5 Apr 2019
The Lisa Latta trained Platinum Rapper (Makfi-Wednesday Rocks) will be looking to score her first black type win when she steps out in the NZB Airfreight Stakes at Riccarton on Saturday.
Bred by Westbury principal Gerry Harvey the 3YO filly was an impressive winner in a fresh state this campaign, and followed this up with a good fifth at Wairarapa when inconvenienced over the final stages and only beaten two lengths behind the older horses.
Platinum Rapper’s win fresh up held plenty of merit with the form franked at Awapuni last week with the runner up Blue on Black finishing third in the Group 3 Higgins Concrete Manawatu Classic, while as a two-year-old Platinum Rapper scored a victory over stablemate and NZ Oaks winner Sentimental Miss.
Platinum Rapper is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Platinum Command who enjoyed an excellent run of form whenever she ventured to Riccarton and the same ownership connections of Neville McAlister and Lincoln Farms will be hoping for a similar result when the younger sister steps out on Saturday.
Another filly from the same yearling consignment will take on Platinum Rapper as South Island filly Dreamtesta will also look to break her black type ‘duck’ after finishing second in both the Gore Guineas LR and the NZB Insurance Stakes LR at her most recent starts.
The Kevin and Pam Hughes trained filly Emily Margaret will start a warm favourite for the race after landing the Group 2 Wellington Guineas at Trentham at her last start.
