Platinum Invador Looking to find NZ Derby Form5 Apr 2019
The Lisa Latta trained Platinum Invador will be hoping he can find the form which saw him run a huge race when flashing home for third to Crown Prosecutor and In A Twinkling in the Vodafone NZ Derby last month when he steps out in Saturday’s A$2,000,000 Harrold’s ATC Derby at Randwick.
Given a week in the paddock after his Derby third, Platinum Invador stepped out last Saturday in the Tulloch Stakes Gr.2 at Rosehill but was disappointing on the very Heavy ground and being ridden handier than his normal pattern.
Connections have elected to take New Zealand jockey Jonathan Riddell to Sydney for the Derby this week as the horse looks to recapture and will be hoping for improved track conditions to allow the horse to show his true form. Platinum Invador has shown he is capable of backing up having raced the preceding two Saturdays before the NZ Derby and the back-up in Sydney should prove to be no barrier.
Ironically Riddell rode Platinum Invador when he had his first start as a 2YO but has not been aboard the Redwood gelding since that time. Chris Johnson and Robbie Hannam have been the regular riders on Platinum Invador this season but Riddell is a quality rider and won’t have any problem guiding the horse around Randwick on Saturday.
