Trusty Lad EFTrusty Lad Sets Out on Derby Path

Talented three-year-old Trusty Lad (Reliable Man-Miss Juventus) resumes at Eagle Farm tomorrow in what his connections will be hoping to be his first step towards a Queensland Derby in June.

Trained by Matt Kropp at Toowoomba, Trusty Lad was in superb form through November and December, culminating in an emphatic win in the Eagle Way Stayers Series Final over 2200m after which he was immediately spelled with a view to preparing for the Queensland Derby.

Tomorrow’s A$75,000 Caleb QTIS Three-Years-Old Plate over 1400m is likely to be too short for the good looking grey, but it should be remembered that he has sprinted well when fresh in the past and a bold effort in a fresh state would not be a surprise.

Trusty Lad was a $180,000 purchase by his trainer at the 2017 Ready to Run Sale at Karaka and is out of the Anabaa mare Miss Juventus who won over 2100m and is a half-sister to the Group 1 placegetter Show of Force (dam of dual Group 1 winner Atomic Force) and closely related to high class three-year-old Encounter.

Miss Juventus has an excellent weanling colt by Tarzino and is infoal to High Chaparral’s son Redwood.
