Grinzinger Star Eyeing up SA Derby23 Apr 2019
The Reliable Man three-year-old Grinzinger Star may well be heading towards a start in the A$500,000 TAB South Australian Derby Gr.1 on the 11 May after winning back-to-back wins at Caulfield on Saturday.
Trained by Danny O,Brien, Grinzinger Star showed good form in the spring and appears to have returned a much stronger horse again this preparation having beaten the promising Mr Quickie two weeks ago, and scoring another dominant win over the older horses in Saturday’s Bill Collins Handicap over 2000m.
O’Brien has said that Grinzinger Star is a good robust style of horse and it is his intention at this stage to head to a A$135,000 race over 2000m at Flemington on 4 May, and providing he runs well, Grinzinger Star would back up a week later in the SA Derby.
Bred by The Oaks Stud, Grinzinger Star is the second foal from the NZ Oaks winner Artistic (Darci Brahma) and is bred to get a Derby trip. Artistic is out of the Dahar mare Artless, making her a half-sister to the Epsom Handicap winner Excellerator and closely related to the capable middle distance performer Consolidator.
Grinzinger Star is one of two Derby hopefuls for Reliable Man in the months ahead, the other being the Queensland three-year-old Trusty Lad who has the A$600,000 Channel 7 Queensland Derby on 4 June as his main target in the months ahead. Trusty Lad resumed last week with a fast finishing second over 1400m and looks to have come back in excellent style for trainer Matt Kropp.« Back
