Hypnos BD2High Class Hypnos Returns in Cambridge Breeders Stakes

Reliable Man’s high class three-year-old Hypnos has been entered for tomorrow’s Group 3 Cambridge Breeders Stakes at Te Rapa and as expected meets a talented line-up of horses in the end of season feature.

Returning from a 3 month break, Hypnos has drawn a horror alley of 18 of the 20 acceptors (likely to start from 14 of 15 come raceday) and there will be plenty of luck in the running. There appears to be plenty of speed in the race and this could well play into the hands of the horses that can settle midfield or thereabouts.

Raced by Ron and Fran Dixon, Hynos has been a work in progress for trainers Roger James and Robert Wellwood but showed his talent when winning the Listed Uncle Remus Stakes at Ellerslie and recording placings in the Levin Classic Gr.1 and the Bonecrusher Stakes Gr.3. Hypnos has not run since beating one home in the Karaka Million 3YO at Ellerslie on 27 January, a performance which left more questions than answers after the horse appeared to be ‘jogging’ on the corner before being eased down by rider Michael McNab, a full range of tests were carried out post-race and failed to explain the lack-lustre performance.

Hypnos is out of the Elusive Quality mare Quality Dream and had a full brother sold through Karaka in January making $270,000 to the bid of Brian Jenkins.
