Gerry HarveyPluton May Live Up to His Name

Swiss Ace three-year-old Pluton was named for his Greek equivalent, recognised as the ‘giver of wealth’ in Greek mythology, and the manner in which he treated his rivals on debut yesterday suggests he could well live up to his namesake in the years ahead.

Trained by Team Rogerson, Pluton had won two of three trials leading into Awapuni, and while still very raw in terms of racing experience, he quickened up exceptionally well when asked by Ryan Elliot after racing wide during the run, and looks to have a bright future as he gains maturity.

Bred on the same cross as Passing Shot, Marseille en Fleur, Hingus Rose, Alpen Rose and Lake Lugarno, Pluton is raced by his breeder Gerry Harvey and is out of the Danehill mare Dancesteps. Pluton’s second dam is the dual Listed winner Cannyanna, who was also Group 1 placed behind Pharein and Toledo in the VRC Salinger Stakes, while his next dam is the Storm Bird mare Deeana’s Bird.
