Speedy MeadyThe Stars Align for Swiss Ace Three-Year-Old Speedy Meady

The Swiss Ace three-year-old Speedy Meady needed everything in his favour to get to the line first in the Inglis Sales Cambridge Breeders Stakes on Saturday, being well down on the ballot when the field was first announced and needing a number of scratchings to make the field top hoop Andrew Calder was engaged at the last moment and gave the horse a 10 out of 10 ride.

It was up to Speady Meady to do the rest as he fought out a torrid battle with the very talented Vigor Winner (Declaration of War) and in the end the judge was unable to split the horses, declaring a dead-heat for first in the Group 3 event.

Raced by his breeder Russell Mead, Speedy Meady has now won 3 of 6 career starts and never finished further back than fourth and like most of the Swiss Ace progeny should be open to good improvement with further maturity on him.

Speedy Meady is the third foal out of the Elusive City mare Lucy in Disguise who won three races up to 1200m. Lucy in Disguise has a two-year-old filly by Swiss Ace following on behind Speedy Meady.

Another of the Swiss Ace progeny were seen to the fore in Hong Kong overnight when the very talented Little Giant (ex Princess Carolina) finished a brave third when beaten three-quarters of a length in the HK$16,000,000 Chairman’s Sprint Prize Gr.1 over 1200m.

Little Giant has won 5 of his 11 career starts to date with a further three third placings making for a fantastic formline and his stake earnings now exceeding NZ$1,100,000. Trained by David Hall, Little Giant raced twice in New Zealand from the stable of Lisa Latta for owner/breeder Gerry Harvey, and was unbeaten in his two starts here before being sold to Hong Kong in a deal brokered by John Foote Bloodstock.

Team Rogerson also produced a promising Swiss Ace three-year-old at Awapuni when first starter Pluton (ex Dancesteps) came from off the pace to win impressively, and while still very ‘raw’ in terms of experience, he looks another talented performer for the son of Secret Savings.
