Derby Bound Nobu Heads to Randwick3 May 2019
The Queensland Derby Bound three-year-old Nobu (Reliable Man), trained by Chris Waller, takes another step towards a pending Brisbane trip when he heads to Randwick on Saturday for the A$125,000 Heritage Centre Tours Handicap over 1800m.
Nobu has been a consistent performer throughout his three-year-old season with an unplaced run in the Vodafone NZ Derby the only real blotch on his record, and this coming after he suffered significant interference in the running. Nobu returned to Australia and resumed at Randwick on Anzac Day where he ran home strongly over 1550m under Blake Shinn, while Tommy Berry takes the mount this week.
Waller trained Reliable Man for his two Australian starts which included a win over It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m and it is somewhat fitting this Saturday that Waller has six acceptors in Saturday’s race with three of them (Ombudsman, Nobu, and Duchess of Lennox) being by Reliable Man.
Duchess of Lennox is raced by her breeder Gerry Harvey and is a recent addition to Waller’s stable after winning two of her three starts from the stable of Stephen Jones. Duchess of Lennox has been impressive winning in the country while Saturday will see her experience a substantial rise in class, her pedigree suggests she will “eat up” the distance being a granddaughter of Oaks winner Tartan Tights and her first city appearance will be watched with interest.« Back
