Grinzinger Star to Cement Derby Favouritism3 May 2019
The Danny O’Brien trained three-year-old Grinzinger Star (Reliable Man) could force his way into favourite for next weeks A$500,000 TAB South Australian Derby when he contests the A$135,000 Zipping Handicap over 2000m at Flemington tomorrow.
Grinzinger Star is currently the second elect for the Derby behind last week’s impressive winner Mr Quickie, a horse he defeated two starts back at Caulfield. Bred by The Oaks Stud out of their Group 1 winning mare Artistic, Grinzinger Star has won his past two starts at Caulfield and has been allotted the steadier of 60kg tomorrow, but will benefit from a 1.5kg allowance for apprentice Ethan Brown, as he returns to his own age group after beating the older horses at his most recent appearance.
The owner of just nine career starts to date, Grinzinger Star has 3 wins and 4 minor placings to his credit and has won his last two starts in impressive fashion, and safely through tomorrow he will provide his sire Reliable Man with a strong chance to secure his second classic winner for the season after Sentimental Lass took out the NZ Oaks Gr.1 in March.« Back
