Reliable Man 2018bTrusty Lad Back to a Preferred Trip in Rough Habit

Quality Queensland performer Trusty Lad – another by Reliable Man - steps out in Saturday’s A$140,000 Rough Habit Plate Gr.3 at Doomben on Saturday as he advances towards the Channel 7 Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm on 8 June.

Trusty Lad took out the Eagle Way Stayers Final in December and trainer Matt Kropp has had just one race in his mind since, the A$600,000 Queensland Derby Gr.1. Trusty Lad returned from a spell with a bold second over 1400m in a fresh state this preparation, and was making good ground over the final stages over 1600m at his most recent start, while today he returns to a much more suitable distance of 2000m in the Group 3 feature and is among the leading chances for the traditional lead-in to the Derby.

Bred by Gerry Harvey in New Zealand, Trusty Lad is a course and distance winner and has won twice from 9 starts with a further three placings and has only raced twice at 2000m or further for a win and a second.

A $185,000 Ready to Run purchase by his trainer, Trusty Lad is out of the Anabaa mare Miss Juventus, who has an excellent colt by exciting first season sire Tarzino and carries a positive test to Redwood.
